Neurala Takes Gold at 2018 Edison Awards

New York, NY–April 27, 2018–Artificial intelligence company Neurala was voted a Gold Winner in the category of Social Innovation at the 2018 Edison Awards. The company won on the strength of its Brains For Bots™ Software Development Kit (SDK), which enables the addition of sophisticated, deep learning neural network artificial intelligence (AI) functions to smart products like robots, cameras and drones.

Being recognized with an Edison Award is one of the highest accolades a company can receive in the categories of innovation and business. The awards are named after Thomas Edison, whose inventions, new product development methods and innovative achievements changed the world, garnered him 1,093 U.S. patents and made him a household name around the globe.

Nominees for the Edison Awards were judged by a panel of more than 3,000 leading business executives, including past award winners, academics and leaders in the fields of product development, design, engineering, science and medicine.

“Our judges recognized Neurala as a true innovator out of the many products in its category,” said Frank Bonafilia, executive director of the Edison Awards.

“The Edison Awards celebrate innovative organizations and the contributions they make to advancing technology,” said Justin Starbird, Edison Awards director of nominations. “Neurala is doing exciting work in the field of neural networks, and it’s our pleasure to bring some well-deserved recognition to them.”

“We do our work because we find it so personally gratifying, but it does feel good to be recognized by other industry leaders for our innovation in edge machine learning technology,” said Massimiliano Versace, co-founder and CEO of Neurala. “We were in excellent company for this award and we’d like to extend a hearty ‘thanks’ to the organizers of the Edison Awards for giving us the gold.”

The awards were announced on April 11th at the Edison Awards gala at Capitale in New York City. One of the evening’s many highlights was the presentation of the prestigious Edison Achievement Award to Marillyn Hewson, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Lockheed Martin Corporation. The award honors leaders and business executives who have made a significant and lasting contribution to innovation throughout their careers.
