Neurala Co-Founder and COO Heather Ames honored by High School

On Friday, September 10th, Bettendorf High School will honor former Bulldog, Neurala Co-Founder and COO, Dr. Heather Ames, along with three other outstanding graduates as new members of the school’s Hall of Honor. Bettendorf high school’s Hall of Honor looks for graduates who have achieved outstanding success in his or her career, made a significant contribution to the community or to society, demonstrated distinction in professional, public, and/or community service or demonstrated a positive influence on the lives of others.

Here is what Heather had to say about her induction into the Hall of Honor:

I am a proud graduate of Bettendorf High School (BHS; 1998), a high school in small town in Iowa on the Mississippi River. Growing up in Bettendorf, I learned a lot about how I wanted to live my life. 80’s optimism gave rise to my realization that I could be anything I wanted to be, as long as I worked hard at it. Several of my teachers at BMS and BHS inspired me to pursue my career aspirations regardless of my gender; I was proud to bend gender norms. My friends taught me to stand up for what I felt was right. And my family provided support even when I was far more aspirational than they understood.

I have chosen to learn, live, love, and succeed in my professional life. Being inducted into the BHS hall of honor is very meaningful for me. BHS gave me the foundation to be who I am today and a reminder to continue to be that woman into the future and to pass that onto my children.
