Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to be the company’s expert in vision system development, delivery and integration who will leverage their skills and knowledge to bring cutting edge vision AI software to our customers and partners. This role will play a crucial part in Neurala’s growth and success, being the primary interface between our customers, sales, research and engineering teams to design vision systems using Neurala’s AI software that will be subsequently developed and delivered by our OEM and System Integration partners.

Reporting to the SVP of Operations, the Vision Systems Solution Engineering Lead will interface directly with prospective and existing customers to conduct feasibility studies, perform proof of concept implementations ad design systems for full production usage using traditional (RGB/Grayscale) and non-traditional (SWIR, NIR, Hyperspectral) industrial cameras. As the company’s vision system expert, this role will also provide training and enablement to help customers and partners acquire best practices in vision system design to solve their specific use cases, acting as an expert in image acquisition, illumination and part presentation techniques and technologies.

This role will be located in Italy and will be part of our Neurala Europe team. Candidates in or near the packaging ‘triangle’ between Bologna, Milan and Venice are preferred. This role is a global role and will require domestic and international travel.

Role Overview

As each customer and partner is solving for their own specific use case, the role requires familiarity with a wide variety of automation capabilities, including electronic sensing, motion control, machine vision, illumination, data collection, PLC integration and HMI development. The primary responsibility for this position, however, is to be the company’s machine vision expert. This position will play a critical role in accelerating our partners’ and customers’ ability to integrate and deploy Neurala’s software – reducing risk, time-to-value and our ability to scale the business.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience developing and integrating machine vision systems for both inspection and guidance applications within custom automated equipment. The candidate will take the application from requirements definition through system design to developing the initial MVP/pilot system while then supporting customer(s) and partner(s) in their development of production systems within a high-volume manufacturing environments where quality is paramount.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Create vision system specifications for various factory automation equipment.
  • Collaborate with partner mechanical and electrical engineers to create vision enabled factory inspection and automation systems.
  • Design, develop and implement vision algorithms using traditional rules-based technologies and Neurala’s industry leading vision AI software
  • Determine the optimal machine vision architecture for specific operations.
  • Specify and cost vision system hardware and software that best meets the requirements of the use case, including, but not limited to: Cameras, lighting, trigger systems, lenses, filters, power distribution, I/O networks, 3rd party software, and integrations.
  • Provide machine vision-related technical support to customers and partners.
  • Advocate techniques for world class machine vision practices, sharing and enabling Neurala team members in their ability to provide vision expertise to stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

  • BSEE, BSME, Controls, Software Engineering or similar, advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years' experience preferred developing machine vision systems for automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficiency with leading vision systems and software (e.g. Cognex, Keyence, SICK, Basler, Teledyne, MVTec)
  • Knowledge and ability to code in C#, C++ or Python
  • Knowledge of image processing pipelines and analysis techniques.
  • Experience with techniques used for communicating vision information to PLCs
  • A successful track record of developing reliable, vision-enabled automated manufacturing systems, which integrate electronic sensors, motors, and motion control components to perform successful product inspections of a wide variety of parts and/or products
  • Strong technical analytical skills including machine vision algorithms and statistical methods.
  • Fluency in English is required.
