Neurala Names Steve Walsh Vice President of Sales
Leader in Deep Learning Neural Networks Brings On Seasoned International Sales Executive
BOSTON—July 19, 2018—Award-winning artificial intelligence company Neurala announced today that Steve Walsh has joined the team as Vice President of Sales. Walsh is an international sales executive with more than 20 years of experience and joins Neurala from Building Engines, where, as Vice President of Sales, he scaled revenues which culminated in a growth equity investment of $26.5M.
In his new role, he will support the company through continued exponential growth and commercial traction, build out Neurala’s sales team, and help scale the company’s revenue.
“In 2018 alone, Neurala’s software was deployed on more than a million smart devices. Steve has scaled several companies from early market fit to repeatable business models, tens of millions of dollars in revenue and successful exits. He is the right person to help us continue our exponential growth,” said Heather Ames, co-founder and COO of Neurala. “But just as importantly, Steve is sharp, yet humble, and brings a positive energy to the team. Culture is very important to us, and Steve is a great fit.”
Prior to Building Engines, Walsh was co-CEO at datango AG, where he managed the company’s channel development, consulting services, direct sales and profitable international expansion, which resulted in consistent annual revenue growth of between 20 and 60 percent and an acquisition by SAP in 2012. His career also includes leadership roles at Enlight AB, which was sold to datango AG; Fast Search & Transfer AS, which was sold to Microsoft; and RM plc. He began his career on the marketing team at 3M.
“The demand pull for AI solutions is incredible right now, and the Neurala team is just amazing — high on work ethic, low on ego and with solid core values,” said Walsh. “Not to mention that the company’s founders hold three doctorate degrees in artificial intelligence. In a sea of self-proclaimed AI startups, this company has deep experience where other companies have smoke and mirrors. I’m really excited about helping this business scale quickly.”
Neurala developed The Neurala Brain—deep learning neural network software that makes devices and products like drones, mobile phones and cameras more intelligent, engaging and useful. Neurala provides customized solutions ranging from high-end applications to inexpensive everyday products. With The Neurala Brain and an ordinary camera, products can learn people and objects, recognize them in a video stream, find them in the video, and track them as they move. The Neurala Brain is based on technology originally developed for NASA, DARPA and the U.S. Air Force and is now deployed commercially on over a million smart devices.
